Magnolia - a tree of amazing beauty with a unique aroma
Very often in Russia, in the Crimea, on the southern coastBlack Sea and in the cities of the Caucasus for landscaping use large-flowered magnolia. This magnolia, whose flower can be 15-20 cm in diameter and have from 6 to 12 petals in the shape of an egg, quite a long time pleases the eye. The first buds on the tree begin to appear in May, the last - at the end of September, and sometimes in October, and in November you can still see several flowers. In 1817, the magnolia (tree), first appeared in the Crimea, and then in the Caucasus, on the Black Sea coast. There it can grow up to 30 m in height, with the trunk diameter being up to 1 m.
All parts of this plant are used in medicine. For example, using a tincture from his leaves lower the blood pressure.
Magnolias for better growth are required wellmoist and drained slightly acidic soil. If the growth conditions are favorable, the appearance of additional roots can not be ruled out on the lower branches, which can also grow into the ground. Although magnolia is a tree and thermophilic, there are cases when it could temporarily tolerate a drop in temperature even up to 13-15 degrees below zero. And yet the plant is very sensitive to low temperatures and bad weather, especially flowers and buds. But diseases and pests are not terrible for him. Most often the plant is used in groups, and the planting of magnolia is also common for creating an alley.
There is a magnolia (tree) of deciduous species. It is more resistant to low temperatures, so it can be grown even in the middle band of Russia, for example, in the capital or in the Moscow region. But at the same time you need to choose such a place for planting, so that the tree is protected from cold winds, and also for winter to warm the root system with fallen leaves and snow, and close young plants with thick paper.
The most cold-resistant deciduous speciesare the following: magnolia pointed, stellate, as well as a hybrid - magnolia "sulange." The latter type is most interesting. It can be found in places with not very mild climatic conditions, for example, in the Baltic, Ukraine, Central Asia and the Caucasus. This magnolia is a low tree (up to 10 m) or a shrub 4-5 m in height. It is not only cold-resistant, but also tolerates a slight shading. The place for planting should be chosen with wet and fertile soil.
This plant has a smooth gray bark. Young shoots of a brownish-olive shade slightly pubescent. Leaves in the form of an inverted egg are slightly pointed at the tip. Flowers are large, (up to 15 cm), goblet, purple or gently coral, have a delicate aroma or no smell at all. This plant has acquired this color from the Ligna magnolia, which is one of the parents of the "sulange" species. Blooms this hybrid species of magnolia in May, along with the opening of the leaves. Like other varieties, it has fruits in the form of a collective leaflet. Its seeds of black color ripen in September, are in bright orange oily shells.
Saplings for planting, which is carried out in April, should be purchased in containers, because if the roots are damaged, they can disappear. After planting a delicate plant is better not to touch, not to move to another place.
