What is a hypotenuse?
Every person who studied at school, necessarily faced with the term "hypotenuse". And most of us at least roughly represent what is at stake. So what is a hypotenuse?
What is the hypotenuse
Hypotenuse is the side of a rectangulartriangle, which lies opposite the right angle. In literal translation from Greek, the word "hypotenuse" means "stretched out" or "stretched below". Indeed, if we draw a right-angled triangle at right angles, we see that the hypotenuse appears to be stretched at right angles (below the right angle).
From the Greek language the word "hypotenuse" was translated into Latin, and the Russian language was borrowed from Latin in the XVIII century.
In a rectangular triangle, in addition to the hypotenuse, there are two more legs. The so-called parties adjoining the right angle (read the article What is a cathet).
Why the hypotenuse
The ratio of the lengths of the sides and the angles ina rectangular triangle are connected among themselves by certain regularities. Find the length of the hypotenuse, not measuring it, and using the known values of a triangle with a right angle, tried in the Ancient World (read the article How to find the hypotenuse).
And today along the length of the beams for the devicegable roof calculate the length of the rafters. Starting from the given radius, to which the mobile communication signal should spread, determine what height it is necessary to erect a tower in order to place the appropriate equipment on it.
